n the last few years I’m exploring and specifying physical and mental experiences of plenty and of lack. A lack of stability that results from physical elusiveness, and stabilizing mechanisms that work as oppositive forces. This point of view shapes my artistic perspective, and results in ‘Into The Void’, a physical workshop that explores, through physical and mental scores and formulated material, the liminal experience of the elusive body. The workshop is two to two thirty hours at length, and is for professional dancers in different stages in their training and career.
I gave this workshop in 2022 in Quinzena De Danca De Almada Portugal and at the BA and MA program, the Jerusalem Academy For Music and Dance, Jlm Israel.
The workshop consists three parts. It starts by a floor-based warmup, that takes the physical principles of interruption, push, hanging and spiraling into a physical session of work. The focus is on tonal control that allows joint agility. Moving on to formulated material that uses these principles as motivating engines. Through improvisation, we further look for the suspense that is hidden in between the actions, where the lack becomes the plentiful body, and where the multiplicity evolves into singularity. Continuing to more formulated material from my repertoire, to have a wider artistic look on the behavior these mechanisms can shape .
