About the performance

Temporary Orders, the first performance-based exhibition by Public Movement in Italy, is presented in Vistamarestudio Gallery, Milan. Public Movement invites visitors to participate in a performative exhibition which takes place throughout the gallery. Drawing from their choreographic vocabulary, the exhibition is activated by six performers who form together choreographic monuments in the vacant gallery space. The visitors are led in small groups as the gallery transforms into an arena of physical exchange

The exhibition features four performances that examine corporal memory as a mode through which we experience historical narratives, and the way these narratives project on present modes of identifications. The performers conduct ceremonies, short speeches and orchestrated movements that point to existing intersections between art, the art market, modernism, and ideological impulses

At the center of the show is Choreography for a Collection, a new performance specifically conceived for the gallery and based on the group’s research into Italian art made between 1909 and 1945, which was lost, destroyed or disappeared during WWII – often consumed by the same ideology it wished to represent. During the opening hours of the exhibition the performance Debriefing Session: Vistamarestudio, will be activated in a secret location in the gallery
