How often do you experience instability? Mental and emotional instabilities? Instabilities in the reality and in the perception of reality? In my piece Oh My Electric Eye I decided to bring these human sensations and sensitivities, that are often hidden or marked as weakness, to the forefront. Inspired by the astrophysics of black holes and science fiction, I created Oh My Electric Eye, a sci fi legend for three dancers and a star map, that delves into the exploration of the physical, mental and performative manifestations of the experience of instability.
The piece premierd in 2024 in Machol Shalem Dance House JLM and Suzanne Dellal center TLV. Duration: 40 minutes. Suitable for a blackbox theater 70-90 square meters in area.
Oh My Electric Eye uses physical mechanisms of instability- spiraling, turning and falling bodies inspired by the behavior of material on the verge of black holes. It touches on the issue of physical agency, how can my physical and mental actions increase my strength and power to help me overcome outside forces, using myself and the community around me? The star map that shapes the space in Oh My Electric eye is made out of almost 30 programmable led light spheres that lay on the stage, and create an inverted unstable celestial land-scape. During the piece the electric stars transform into magical cyborg entities, prosthetic eyes that allow the dancers to regain sense of stability, reclaiming agency and sense of self, while creating legendary physical images
