Mica Kupfer (b.1993) is a choreographer, director, dancer and a multi-disciplinary artist, currently based in Tel-Aviv.. Her artistic practice brings together an amalgam of visual and movement languages oscillating between performance-art, choreography, visual theater, dance-theater. In her projects, she explores inherent and hidden tensions in human behavior. Through an investigative mode and a deconstructive – yet minimalist – focus on the moving body, she exposes physical mechanisms and unfolds stories of what it is to be .human-bodies in our world
Kupfer graduated from the ‘School of Visual Theater’ in Jerusalem with honors of the mayor. Since then, she has been showing her pieces in various settings, as well as participating as a performer and co-creator in different collaborations. Her debut independent piece By virtue of the Same movement premiered at the ‘Akko Festival’ in 2019, and won four of the official awards. In 2021, her piece Forest Threshold premiered at the ‘Autumn cult’ festival, at ‘Hazira’ theater. The first part of her most recent work, Walking on Two was shown at ‘Intimadance Festival’, 2022, and a full length of the piece in ‘kelim Festival’ 2023, at ‘Kelim’ Center
She performed and created in many venues and festivals including ‘Akko festival’, ‘Kelim festival’ ‘Intimadance festival’, ‘Hazira’ theater, ‘Habait theater’, ‘Hanut theater’, ‘’Bat-Yam Festival’, ‘Jerusalem Puppet Train theater festival’ and others
Kupfer has also participated in residency programs in venues such as the Kelim Center (2022-2023), ‘Mamuta’ (2022), ‘Hamiffal’ (2020) and ‘Hazira Theater’ (2020) and received various grants, such as the ‘Fund for Independent Creators’ of the ministry of culture (2022), Mifal HaPais’s grant (2020; 2022), Rabinovitch Foundation’s grant (2020) and others
