About the author
Born in 1974, a stage artist, dancer and choreographer, producer, conducts master workshops and master classes in Israel and internationally.
Her work brings to the stage multidisciplinary art, and combines contemporary dance and physical theater, while corresponding with Israeli and international artists and performers from various disciplines. Her works rely on a deep study of the human body through the natural sensuality repressed in daily actions, and are rooted in a perpetual study of the behavior of spirit and consciousness, their boundaries, their functions, and their influence on each other.
Biography
Anat Grigorio (1974) born and raised Petah Tikva, she developed her skills in artistic gymnastics, tap dancing, modern dance, classical ballet, contemporary dance and physical theater. Anat is an established stage artist and is a member of the Choreographers’ Association. Conducts workshops and master classes in Israel and internationally, choreographing since 2003 and is supported by the Israeli Ministry of Education and Culture.
She acquired her training as a dancer in the kibbutz contemporary dance company, Ido Tadmor’s company, Tami Dance Company, under the artistic direction of Nimrod Freed, physical theater under the artistic direction of Thieery Moral (France). She danced and collaborated with Israeli choreographers and stage artists, including Niv Sheinfeld and Oren Laor (“Ship of Fools”), Sahar Azimi, Shlomit Fundaminsky, Sally-Ann Friedland, Orly Noa Rabbanian, Sharon Friedman. Graduated from All Human, the annual course in physical theater studies under the training of Thieery Moral and Nelly Amar.
Winner of the Puf’s Theater Sky Award at the international festival in Croatia awarded to artists who bring a new spirit to the field of performing arts. Received a scholarship for dancers / choreographers under the direction of Nigel Charnock, one of the founders of DV8 Physical Theater Company. Her works have gained national and international recognition in Europe, Asia, the United States and South America.
The solo work “Mr. Nice Guy” premiered at the Israel Festival 2013, and has since been performed around the country, and gained international recognition in Russia, China, Poland, Lithuania, Romania, Uruguay, Spain, and USA. The work “Mr. Nice Guy” was invited to participate in the panel Women Leading Change at the Jerusalem Theater and in a panel in collaboration with the Department of Gender at Tel Aviv University as part of the Woman Festival.
In November 2014 she premiered “On the Edge” As part of the Curtain Up festival, since then the work was staged around the country and in April 2015, she was invited for a world premiere at the Isadora festival in Russia.
In November 2015, she premiered the work – “Memo” at Warehouse 2, Jaffa Port. In February 2016, “Memo” premiered in the USA and in May 2017 at the Isadora Festival in Russia.
In October 2016 she participated in an international project in the US as part of Exposed Festival held in Houston and Atlanta in collaboration with five significant institutions and organizations – Emory University, Kennesaw Department of Dance and Theater, Rialto Dance Center, Core Dance Company, and 7 Stages Theater.
During an artist residency at EMORY University in Atlanta, Anat conducted master classes, presented her work “Mr. Nice Guy” and created the “Run-In” work for the Emory University Dance Company.

Special projects
2016 Part of an artist residency in Atlanta, USA, Anat was invited to conduct master classes and create work for 10 dancers of the Emory University dance company
2016 Part of an artist residency in New Mexico USA, she was invited to conduct master classes and create a solo work “Womanimal” for the Keshet Dance Company.
2015 Part of the Choreographers Association’s collaboration with the Youth at Risk Association – Voice of Youth, weekly meetings were held with young designers in which they were exposed to creative process and designed the costumes for her latest work “Memo”. Work on the costume design was guided and supervised by Anat and designer Liron Mankin.
2015 Movement Consultant for the work “If You Practice You Will Succeed” performed and created by Natalie Zuckerman, a show delivered through the prism of the disabled body, in the actor-creator-researcher program at the Department of Theater Arts at Tel Aviv University. The work premiered at the Acco Fringe Festival 2015.
2011 Invited to artistically direct the dance stage “Rock N ‘Dance” part of the Acco Fringe Festival. The dance stage premiered at Acco Fringe Festival of Alternative Israeli Theatre on Acco’s Western Wall. The event included three days of marathon performances that combine dance, live music, and video art.
2011 Part of an artist residency in the Canary Islands, she premiered the dance film “AnimaAnimus” with Israeli choreographer Sharon Friedman and Spanish filmmaker Damian Varela. The film was supported by the La Gomera Choreography Center, in the Canary Islands. The film was screened in Israel and internationally and gained international recognition in Uruguay and Spain.
