Sahar Azimi
About the author
Born in Hedera in 1974 and began working as a choreographer in 2000.
As a dancer, he danced with several dance companies, including the Batsheva Ensemble, Clipa Theater, Inbal Dance Company, Barak Marshall Dance Company and worked with choreographers Emanuel Gat, Noa Dar, Ronit Ziv and others.
Sahar received several awards, including the Minister of Education and Culture Award for up and coming choreographers in 2005. He is supported by Mifal Hapayis Lottery Art Council, Teva Foundation, Rabinovich foundation and more.
Currently, Sahar teaches, among other things, at the High Academy of Dance and is the artistic director of the academy’s ensemble. Following the initiative and artistic management of Sahar, the morning classes project for professional dancers in Jerusalem began in June 2010, partnered with the Jerusalem Municipality, the Jerusalem Foundation, Elad Schechter and the Jerusalem Hora company. Sahar was one of the artistic directors of the Curtain Up festival in 2010. Since 2012, he is the artistic director of the Dance Arena festival and the New Dance program at Ha’zira Theater Jerusalem.
Sahar’s works have been invited to many festivals around the world, including: Monaco Dance Forum, Non Verbal Theater in Croatia, Uzes Dance France, Sziget Hungary, Germany, Brazil, Japan, Switzerland, Italy and more…

2015 “Isra Ve Ishma”, a collaboration with the Moran Choir. Choreography for the work “Isra and Hear” by Haim Fremont, lyrics: Mirik Snir.
2014 “Polly Monopoly”, a one hour duet with dancer Orin Yohanan, presented at Warehouse 2, October 2014. Deals with marital relationships in the new era.
2011 “Cell in a Human Scale”, a 50-minute work in collaboration with director Tamara Arda, which deals with the HIV virus. Produced with the support of the AIDS Task Force.
2010 “UTF8”, a work for seven dancers. Commissioned, produced and performed by the zpa company, Zagreb, and showcased in Israel afterwards.
In 2010, Sahar formed the Sahar Azimi Company, which performs with the works: “Come Feel” – Curtain Up 2007, “Manpower” – Voice of the Word Festival 2008 at Ha’zira Theater Jerusalem, “UTF8” – which premiered in Croatia with Zagreb ZPA Company and in January 2010 premiered in Israel with a local cast in a different variation. Currently, Sahar choreographs a new work: “The Other Woman”, which is based on the duet “Manpower” and deals with compulsive relations in the context of interpersonal relations and the socio-political reality in Israel.
