Bama Dance Group
Bama Dance Group creates dance performances for children and the entire family since 2006. Each dance work emerges from a collaborative creation process between artists from different fields of the performing arts. The group’s work draws upon experiences and real objects from the daily life of children – from mobile phones to recycled plastic and cardboard products – turning them into a magical performance through imagination and movement. The outcome is exhilarating performances that introduce young viewers to the world of dance, inspiring them to think and dream outside of the box.
Bama Dance Group performs in Israel and abroad, and has received awards at various international children’s festivals. The group is supported by the Israeli Ministry of Culture and Sports and is a member of the Choreographers’ Association and Youth Music Israel.
Nima Jacoby
Choreographer, Dancer and Artistic Manager of Bama Dance Group. Her work originates in a creative dialogue between dance and various performing arts – music, costumes, stage lighting and puppetry. She danced at the Kibbutz Dance Company and Inbal Dance Theatre. During her MA studies at the Laban Centre, London, she researched creative processes in dance. She created dance works for adults performing in Israel and abroad. Her professional experience as a dance teacher for children and her approach of integrating playfulness and imagination in her creative process, has led her to create dance performances for children, which use objects from their daily life, and develop movement workshops. Her works for Bama Dance Group reflect the creative freedom and imaginative vision shared by both the playing child and the choreographer.
