Merav Cohen
About the author
Merav Cohen was born in Haifa, 1983, choreographer and poet, graduate of the REUT School of Arts, WIZO Haifa. Graduated from the dancers’ training workshop of the Haifa Dance Promotion Association, a student of the late sculptor Uri Katzenstein. Between the years 1999-2012 she danced in the “Bat Kol” Dance Company in Haifa, in the Kibbutz Youth Dance Company and with the creators Idan Cohen, Maya Dunsky, Keren Ida Natan, Smadar Yaaron and Osnat Shnek-Yosef.
A Choreograph since 2008, her works has been performed at various festivals and theaters locally and internationally. Among her works: “Pigeons Drowned in the River”, “Laugh for Me”, “Dreams in Hispania”, “Hunt the Memory”, “Tanugi Googi “, “The Chariot”, “When the Beast Returned” performed by Ido Tadmor, “Bugs” performed by Rona Lee Shimon. Since 2018, creates in collaboration with her partner, screenwriter and director Tal Reinan, their first joint work, “Fancy Wild Land”, produced and staged by the Haifa Theater. She is currently working on a new piece, “The Nutcracker” in collaboration with the Haifa Symphony Orchestra.
Between the years 2014-2019, she founded and managed the Portrait of the Creative Artist course at Acco Theater Center in collaboration with Moni Yossef and Smadar Yaaron. She currently runs the dance school at the First Community Center in Tirat Ha’Carmel, a teacher and workshops facilitator of movement improvisation, creative processes and choreographic tools, inspired by the Bhutto dance technique and according to Grotowski’s training method.
Winner of the 2015 Minister of Culture and Sports Award for Creators up to 10 years. Member of the Choreographers’ Association. Undergraduate student in the Department of Hebrew and Comparative Literature, University of Haifa. Mother to Nilia, Tene and Matar.
